West Suffolk Operational Hub

Waste Transfer Station in March, CambridgeshireA West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) is a proposal by Forest Heath District Council, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Suffolk County Council (the 'partner councils') to manage your waste by relocating a number of facilities to a single site. This would increase efficiency, save money and future-proof waste management for West Suffolk's growing communities.

Twenty new sites put forward during public consultation in January and February 2016 were investigated by the councils with the result that land at Hollow Road Farm, near Bury St Edmunds, still scores the highest on service and financial criteria. This site has now been selected as the best location for a West Suffolk Operational Hub.

On Tuesday 28 June St Edmundsbury Borough Council decided to move forward with the WSOH project and Forest Heath District Council voted to do the same on Wednesday 29 June. The final decision about whether a hub is built on land at Hollow Road Farm will be the responsibility of St Edmundsbury's Development Control Committee (date to be confirmed). Suffolk County Council already has the necessary democratic decisions in place as a result of their Energy from Waste project.

A Consultation Report (Appendix A in the Cabinet reports) sets out every issue raised (nearly 400 of them) and gives responses to each of them. The technical documents setting out the councils' research, published for the consultation, have also been amended.
